Extension, East Sussex

The new extension creates a living space that embraces the rear grounds – in a way that none of the original spaces were able to do.  The careful interlocking of the new volume into the existing building was necessary to re-establish a comfortable and well-proportioned facadal plane, which was previously absent due to the presence of the protruding rear wing of the house.  The new glazed wall and the new symmetries created within the interior create a relaxed, containing space with a meditative focus on the gardens.
