St. Mary’s, Barcombe

The proportions and detailing of this church annexe are intended to convey mass, strength and character.  An enhanced sense of drama and scale is conveyed through the use of swooping verges and the monolithic simplicity of the south gable wall.

The extension provides a flexible church / community space with kitchen, WCs and associated storage rooms & connects to the church via a glazed link, the main rooms themselves embrace views across the South Downs.  The timber clad finish will weather over the years to a silver-grey that will blend with the hue of the existing stonework.
