Stream Cottage

This Grade II listed cottage was derelict and in a poor state of repair, with the proposals restoring the original cottage and creating a new extension to the rear.

The internal spaces were fully refurbished, retaining and restoring features such as exposed beams, and the inglenook fireplace.

A main part of the restoration was the reinstatement of the thatched roof. This had been replaced with a tiled roof, but it was considered the thatch was part of the cottage’s heritage, and should be reinstated.

The new extension continued the traditional style of the existing cottage so that it would be read as one.

The project was awarded first place in the Small Scale Residential Category at the 2015 Sussex Heritage Awards.
